Explosive guitar pyrotechnics from post-rock instrumentalists:

"Sometimes it feels like Gentle Giant being battered by the brute strength of Zeppelin at their bombastic best; at others, like the soundtrack to some acid-fuelled trip incorporating pixies and fairy wings." Drowned In Sound Live Review

Up C Down C Left C Right C ABC+START (or UPCDOWNC as they are known to fans) have already built up a loyal and enthusiastic live following in the UK, and via downloads and web-sales of earlier self-recorded material, in Europe, the USA, Canada and Japan.A demo recording of the track ‘Shallows’ was recently cited by XFM’s John Kennedy as: “best song I have heard this year, an epic - magnificent stuff”, other fans include The Libertines Pete Doherty (who has invited them to play at his Rhythm Factory club night) and they have been in discussions with Steve Albini, who has expressed an interest in producing their debut album.

A predominantly instrumental band, UPCDOWNC have echoes of left-field rock pioneers such as Slint, Mogwai, and Sonic Youth combined with the drum-heavy, structural complexity of Albini’s Shellac. In addition the band have a strong melodic undercurrent and epic, filmic quality to their compositions which adds to the uniqueness of their sound and approach.

UPCDOWNC are the first band to sign to Tap N Tin Records for a full album deal. The CD release will follow on from an initial series of single releases, beginning with the double A-Side of sonic experimentation that is ‘Stand Shadowless Like Silence’ and ‘Sadakos Fury’. From its pastoral opening of picked guitar and keyboard, ‘Shadowless’ launches into a huge Pixies-esque riff and melodic bass hook before descending into a feedback drenched finale. ‘Sadakos Fury’ kicks off with a plaintive keyboard and bassline refrain that recalls Joy Division circa ‘Shes Lost Control’ and develops into a compelling, raging guitar and drum workout.
